Longfin spotted snake-eel
The Longfin spotted snake-eel〔(Common names of ''Myrichthys aspetocheiros'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 (''Myrichthys aspetocheiros'') is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).〔(''Myrichthys aspetocheiros'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by John E. McCosker and Richard Heinrich Rosenblatt in 1993.〔McCosker, J. E. and R. H. Rosenblatt, 1993 (21 Dec.) (21180 ) ''A revision of the snake eel genus Myrichthys (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae) with the description of a new eastern Pacific species.'' Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences v. 48 (no. 8): 153-169.〕 It is a marine, tropical eel which is known from Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama, in the eastern central Pacific Ocean.〔(''Myrichthys aspetocheiros'' ) at the IUCN redlist.〕 It dwells at a depth range of , and inhabits sandy substrates. Males can reach a maximum total length of .〔
Due to its moderately widespread distribution in the eastern Pacific, lack of known threats, and lack of observed population decline, the IUCN redlist currently lists the Longfin spotted snake-eel as Least Concern.〔
